Depression

Flatness, exhaustion that sleep does not fix, and the sense that everything takes more effort than it used to.

Depression is not always sadness. People often describe it as flatness, or as tiredness that a full night does not touch, or as a slow narrowing of what they can be bothered to do. Small tasks start to take a run-up. Things that used to be enjoyable become one more item on a list. Some people notice it first in their sleep or appetite, some in their patience with the people they live with, and some only when somebody else points it out.

It is common to arrive unsure whether what you are describing counts. That is a reasonable thing to bring to a first appointment rather than something to settle before booking one.

Where people start here. Therapy is the option if you want a regular hour to work through what is going on and what is keeping it in place. A Psychiatric Evaluation is the longer first conversation with a prescriber, covering history and physical health as well as symptoms, and it is what precedes any decision about Medication Management. If the practical side has piled up while you have had less capacity, Case Management deals with that directly.

If you are in crisis or someone may be in danger, call or text 988, or go to your nearest emergency room.

Appointments run one hour, in person in Bowie or by telehealth. We see adults 18 and over.
