Psychiatric Evaluations
A full first conversation with a prescriber about your history and what you are dealing with now, before any treatment plan is decided.
A psychiatric evaluation is the appointment that comes first. It is an hour with a prescriber, spent on your history, what you are dealing with now, what you have tried before and how it went, your physical health, and anything you are already taking. Nothing is decided about a treatment plan before that conversation has happened.
For most people this is the appointment that precedes any discussion of medication, which is why it usually comes before Medication Management rather than alongside it. It can also be the appointment that concludes medication is not what you need, and points somewhere else instead.
What to expect:
- One hour, the same as every appointment here.
- Questions about symptoms, sleep, history, and what a normal week looks like for you now.
- Questions about physical health and current medications, including anything over the counter.
- Time at the end for your own questions, and a plain explanation of what the clinician is thinking and why.
You do not need a referral or a diagnosis to book one. If you are not sure whether this or therapy is the right starting point, call and we will talk it through.
A first appointment does not have to be in person. If it is easier to start from home, you can.
We see adults 18 and over, in person in Bowie or by telehealth.
This service is available by telehealth, including for a first appointment. How telehealth works here.
